Misk Academy and Bloomberg Education Initiatives:

In 2018, Misk Foundation and Bloomberg announced a joint initiative to support the advancement of Saudi youth through the provision of financial training and technology. As a result of the collaboration, universities across Saudi Arabia are being provided with dedicated student trainings, support for faculty staff and professors to integrate capital markets content into their curricula, and access to the Bloomberg Terminal and its global community.

Key milestones to date:

The program has been deployed in 13 universities across the Kingdom thus far, with faculty provided support to integrate capital markets content into their curricula, and access to the Bloomberg Terminal and its global community. This has enhanced professors’ teaching experience and created a bridge between students and the professional world.

A key component of this initiative is the Bloomberg Trading Challenge – Saudi Arabia, the first of its kind in the Middle East. 52 teams, comprised of 250 students competed over eight weeks to generate the strongest investment strategy and most valuable portfolio on the Bloomberg Terminal, using a SAR 3 million notional amount. The five top teams attended the finals in Riyadh where they presented their investment rational to a panel of judges from Misk, Bloomberg and investment professionals, with a team from Al Yamamah emerging as the winning team.

The Bloomberg Economic Research Challenge was another key initiative designed to familiarize students with the tools used by professionals around the world. The first of its kind globally, students across the Kingdom were asked to develop a short analysis on the Saudi macro economy, using Bloomberg Terminal functions. Approximately 80 teams and 300 students took part. Judges from Misk, Bloomberg and the Saudi Ministry of Finance marked the papers, with KFUPM emerging in top place. The winning team travelled to Bloomberg’s Middle East and Africa offices where they met with Bloomberg’s regional leadership and took part in mock interviews with Bloomberg Television anchors.

Upcoming Webinars:

Bloomberg-run webinars are open to students at participating universities. These webinars, and the wider initiative, support the establishment of a bridge between universities and the professional world through the provision of access to real-world tools and experiences that help put theory into practice.
